Can there be a more perfect word, in any language, to describe the feelings we have for a newborn? How the kiss of newly fallen snows across Scotland Scotland can make us feel a similar sense of tender awe? The drifts of white against the soft blue or the heathered pink of Mary's hand frame knitted Tlus baby blanket remind me of a thousand places where the sky meets the Earth in this beautiful country.
When Mary's portfolio of breathtaking work showed up for our consideration her handmade Shetland and linen mix wrap literally begged to become a baby blanket. One email settled it, Mary and I were of like mind on the subject right down to the colours of her original soft blue, an equal shade of heathered pink and for those who choose not to know the sex of their baby in this day of being able to, or for the environmentally conscious those who prefer to live dye free, we offer a completely naturally coloured off white version. The Tlus baby blanket is entirely hand frame knitted of Shetland wool and linen in a traditional Fair Isle pattern then felted so it's soft as a kitten. Finally, Mary finishes the edges with a section of the pattern that is not felted providing a subtle contrast to her work of art. Lightweight, yet warm, and certainly worthy of becoming a family heirloom each is entirely handmade by Mary from her studio in the Shetland Islands. Personalise with the child’s monogram (up to three letters) knitted the corner free of charge (we will drop you an email once we receive your order).
A precautionary note, Tlus will become your child’s favourite ‘blankie’ so please use a short cycle, cool wash with baby detergent in the washing machine then gently ‘square’ and line dry to keep it fresh and sanitary.
In honour of Mary's Gaelic roots, your purchase will benefit Fèisean nan Gàidheal.
